PEDI offering aquatic therapy on July 19, Aug. 17

It’s that time of the year again when families take to the water to escape the summer heat. Children can jump right in to the perfect playground for indulging their senses.
PEDI Center owner and physical therapist Lisa Pinson will be spending two days(Friday, July 19 and Saturday, Aug. 17) in the pool teaching children and parents all the great therapy activities they can do on  summer vacation. Lisa is a certified aquatic therapist.
Sessions are tailored to your child’s therapy needs including gross motor function, coordination, attention, sensory integration, water safety, swim skills and much more. Space is limited so sign up today by contacting lisa@pedi-center.com, or calling 602-476-7519.
For children with developmental delays, water therapy is a sensory bonanza with activities to help them with improving coordination, proprioceptive and vestibular feedback. Activities can include one or all the senses such as visual, auditory and tactile.

Water adds a new dimension to the senses, giving resistance where it is needed and helping with movement flow. The gravity-lessened environment of water helps children explore and practice movements and skills they might not be able to do yet on land.

Water provides resistance to active movement through all planes of motion, promoting strength for major muscle groups. Movement through water also provides increased tactile and proprioceptive input that enhances body awareness and motor learning. Aquatic therapy assists in physical therapy by:

  • Providing gravity-lessened environment
  • Adding resistance to exercise
  • Increasing joint range of motion and muscle strength
  • Increasing proprioceptive input with environment
  • Raising motor learning and body awareness
